Sunday, September 14th, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Putnam Farm, 239 Rock Harbor Road (Map Location #8)

Putnam Farm was purchased by the Town of Orleans for agriculture and conservation and is managed by the Orleans Conservation Commission. In the spring of 2024, the agricultural plots were expanded and a restoration of the wetland area between the plots initiated. With input from Xerces Society and Mass Audubon, a wetlands restoration plan designed by nationally recognized expert Tom Biebighauser was implemented converting a small pond and shrub swamp into vernal pools of varying depths, wet meadows and an upland sandplain grassland. Join Conservation Commission member Judith Bruce and Putnam grower Alex Bates on a walk to see how this area is enriching the environment to attract more pollinators, improve habitat, and enhance the productivity of agricultural plots.
