Putnam Farm was purchased by the Town of Orleans for agriculture and conservation and is managed by the Orleans Conservation Commission. This past spring the agricultural plots were expanded and a restoration of the wetland area between the plots initiated. With input from Xerces Society and Mass Audubon, a wetlands restoration plan designed by nationally recognized expert Tom Biebighauser was implemented converting a small pond and shrub swamp into vernal pools of varying depths, wet meadows and an upland sand plain grassland. Join Conservation Chair Drusy Henson and Putnam growers Jessica and Dave Rempel on a walk to see how this area is enriching the environment to attract more pollinators, improve habitat and improve the productivity of agricultural plots.
