Saturday 8-Noon at locations around town by water's edge - (4,6,10,11).
Artists from Cape Cod and beyond will be painting at waterside sites around Orleans including Rock Harbor (11), Little Pleasant Bay at Paw Wah Landing (4), Town Cove (6), and Pleasant Bay Community Boating(10). Their wet paintings will be brought to the Addison Art Gallery for an exhibition and reception from 4 to 6 pm.
Watch award-winning painters as they create work inspired by the shores of Orleans. En plein air, French for “open air,” describes paintings created outdoors. French Impressionists, including Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, advocated en plein air painting. Charles Webster Hawthorne, who started the art colony in Provincetown, came to Cape Cod to teach painting en plein air. The public is invited to come and watch as adults and children alike are enthralled by seeing a painting move from a sketch to a finished piece, and delighted to meet accomplished artists.
