Meet at south end of Nauset Beach parking lot
Join OPC and the Orleans Conservation Trust for a 5-mile roundtrip guided hike to Pochet Island from Nauset Beach. Along the way, enjoy sweeping views of Cape Cod’s spectacular coastline, including scenic beaches, rolling dunes, and rare sandplain grassland habitats. Participants will have the opportunity to meet a member of the Payson family, who will share the island’s rich history and discuss their long-standing stewardship of the property, including a recent sandplain grassland restoration project. This hike is not recommended for children due to the distance and terrain.
This event requires pre-registration! There are 15 spots available through the OPC website (click here to register) and an additional 15 spaces available through the Orleans Conservation Trust’s website (click here to register through OCT).
What to Expect
· Approximately 5 miles roundtrip
· A long, moderate to strenuous hike with extended sun exposure
· A short section that will require walking through up to 8 inches of water during high tide

· Comfortable hiking attire, appropriate footwear. Dress for ticks (permethrin-treated clothes) or consider insect repellent.
· Plenty of water
· A packed lunch
· Sun protection, such as a hat and sunscreen
