2025 Celebrate Our Waters – Earth Day

On April 26, please join OPC for our traditional Earth Day beach clean-up day, and for additional activities, including hands-on demonstrations of water management strategies and ways to create a Cape-friendly lawn. There will also be a scavenger hunt for kids and families.

Schedule:

9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. – Earth Day Clean-up at 17 Orleans Beaches and Landings
9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. – Scavenger Hunt for kids and families at Nauset Beach
12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. – Cape-Friendly Lawn Demonstration at 8 Crystal Lake Drive
2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Zen and the Art of Water Cycle Maintenance at Church of the Holy Spirit


Earth Day Clean-Up in Orleans:

This year’s theme is: Our Power, Our Planet. Come join your neighbors, bring your gloves and a smile to help celebrate Earth Day by lending a hand for 2 hours helping clean up Orleans’ 17 Town Landings and Beaches.

Scavenger Hunt:

Bring the kids and join us for a Scavenger Hunt at Nauset Beach. Starting at 9:00 a.m. we will look for and collect beach treasures along the shore line.

A Cape-Friendly Lawn Demonstration

Join OPC and Tom Coleman at 8 Crystal Lake Drive for one of two sessions discussing and finding a way to have a true, “Cape-Friendly” lawn: one that gives a homeowner the positive effects of grass without the unwanted side effects of being ecologically toxic.

  • Session One – 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m.
  • Session Two – 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Zen and the Art of Water Cycle Maintenance

Enjoy a science-based, interactive workshop with Peter Jensen focusing on the creation and effectiveness of a terraced hillside garden to control and redirect excessive road water runoff. Over the length of an hour and a half course, learn many of the aspects of this special form of gardening. Peter is a Regenerative Agroecologist. He and Lynn Van Norman own and operate Terra Firma Permagardens from their home in Orleans. To participate in the workshop register below:
