📌 Town Meeting

May 3, 2018 By Orleans Pond Coalition

Please attend Orleans Town Meeting
on Monday, May 7 at
6:30 P.M.
at the Orleans Middle School!

Here are six Articles with environmental impact worthy of your support.

Article #14: (Fund CWRMP Implementation – Planning, Engineering and Adaptive Management: $4.2 million). Please approve funding for the final design of the downtown sewer system and for non-traditional technologies, including $200,000 for freshwater pond cleanup . Approval will keep the Town on track to qualify for 0% interest loans from the State Revolving Fund.

Articles #17: (To extend the Pleasant Bay Resource Management Alliance) and #18 (Adopt the Pleasant Bay Alliance 20-year Watershed Permit Plan): The four towns (Orleans, Chatham, Harwich and Brewster) of the Pleasant Bay watershed have set bay-wide water quality goals for which each town has agreed to address its share of the problem. Article #18 authorizes the Orleans Board of Selectmen to enter into the formal agreement with the other three towns necessary for State approval of the plan to clean up Pleasant Bay. For more information, go to www.pleasantbay.org.

Articles #36 (Plastic Single Use Bag Reduction) and #37 (Polystyrene Reduction): Orleans is one of only three towns on the Cape that has not banned plastic single use bags. These products have long known to harm the environment and wildlife. Both articles provide for $50 fines and will be phased in over a 12-month period.Next time, let’s ban plastic bottles as well.

Article #38 (Stretch Energy Code): If approved, Orleans will take another step toward becoming a “green community” by adopting building standards that increase energy efficiency, water conservation and use of renewable energy technologies. If Orleans can “stretch” further by buying only energy efficient vehicles, planning for 20% energy reduction, and fast-tracking renewable energy projects, it also will qualify for significant grants. Provincetown, Wellfleet, Truro and Mashpee have all gone green. Let’s join them.
And don’t forget to vote on Tuesday, May 15,
at the Orleans Senior Center!
