Featured Speaker: Dr. Kenneth Wagner, PhD., Water Resource Services, Inc.

Dr. Wagner holds degrees from Dartmouth College and Cornell University, with his Ph.D. earned in Natural Resource Management in 1985. He has over 40 years of experience working on a variety of water resources assessment and management projects, including lake, reservoir, river and watershed assessment, rehabilitation, and management, regulatory processes, and educational programs. In 2010 he started Water Resource Services, a small company with a focus on water supply protection and lake management consulting. He is a former President of the North American Lake Management Society and former Editor in Chief of Lake and Reservoir Management, a peer-reviewed journal.

His Talk: Dr. Wagner will be presenting his findings on OPC’s Nano Bubble Demonstration Project on Sarah’s Pond.  In recent years, several new technologies focusing on enriched air or oxygenation of waters have emerged as promising approaches to lake and pond remediation.  Three years ago OPC committed to looking more closely at these technologies to find more tools to address nutrient loading in our fresh or marine ponds.  For the past two years, we have closely tracked results of a nano bubble approach in Sarah’s Pond.  Dr. Wagner will discuss these results as well as present possible next steps for OPC pursuing another approach of sidestream supersaturation.  On a related topic, Dr. Wagner will present a primer on cyanobacteria (aka blue green algae) which has received increased attention in recent years.  He will provide a better understanding of this threat to our waters in order to help us all differentiate between “concern and caring” vs “public panic”.  Questions may be emailed to our website in advance or the presentation or at time of presentation via the Webinar “chat”.
