Alexander Bates
Alex moved to the Cape from Maryland in 2017 after committing to a year of service with the AmeriCorps Cape Cod program. Through the program, he gained hands-on experience stewarding the Cape’s diverse ecosystems while building strong connections within the community. After completing his service term, Alex continued with the program as the Outer Cape Program Supervisor, where he coordinated service projects and managed the day-to-day operations of a household of 12 AmeriCorps members in Wellfleet.
These experiences led to his role as Director of Land Stewardship for the Orleans Conservation Trust, a position he held for four rewarding years. In this role, Alex further deepened his expertise in land conservation and management while strengthening his roots in the Orleans community. He currently serves as the Conservation Agent for the Town of Eastham.
Alex is passionate about conservation and keenly aware of the fragility of this place we call home. This awareness motivates his commitment to fostering a healthier future for both the community and the ecosystems that sustain it. Outside of work, Alex enjoys gardening at his plot at Putnam Farm, weightlifting, and exploring the Cape’s natural landscapes.

Judith Bruce
I left NYC and my career in hospital administration to retire to Cape Cod morphing into a frog hugger. I have loved this place since the age of 10 learning to body surf at Nauset and I have been passionate about our waters since my arriving back full time almost 30 years ago.
I am proud to have been one of the Founders of OPC and to have served as the first President. Over the years I have watched this organization mature into an incredible force of advocacy through education. While I have remained quite active in OPC over the years, I have stepped on and off the Board wanting to encourage new ideas and new blood while providing continuity. I am now ready to again step up and serve on the Board of Directors.
In addition to OPC, I have served on the Board of the Friends of Pleasant Bay, Orleans Water and Sewer Board, the Marine and Fresh Water Quality Committee and the Pleasant Bay Alliance. I have done Nestbox Monitoring with Harwich Conservation Trust and bird banding at the Wing Island Banding Station. I presently serve on Orleans Conservation Commission, Open Space Committee, and Wastewater Management Advisory Committee and have been a freshwater and estuary water quality sampler for over 25 years.

She soon transitioned to the public sector, clerking for more than a decade for the U.S. Court of Appeals in Denver, Colorado, and for two U.S. District Court Judges, one in Denver and the other in San Antonio, Texas. In 2000, Linda returned to the corporate legal world, handling commercial transactions for several large technology companies. She later moved into private practice with a small, woman-owned law firm based in California, representing technology, medical, and financial institutions in commercial contract negotiations until her retirement in 2023.
Linda has been coming to the Cape since the early 90’s, and she and her husband recently bought a house on Main Street in Orleans, where they live part-time. She loves to cook, garden and explore all the hiking trails and ponds that Orleans and the Cape have to offer.

Wendy Scofield
Wendy Scofield has been a year-round Orleans resident since 2020, however she spent her summers on the Cape in Eastham her entire life. She’s passionate about our waters as she has seen first hand just how fragile our ecosystem is. She’s witnessed many of our healthy aquatic resources decline over the years and recognizes how important it is to preserve and revitalize what we have.
Wendy first got involved with the Orleans Pond Coalition through volunteering as the creative director for the new OPC Blue Pages. In addition to pitching in to efforts here in town, she is a member of the Parents Association at Riverview School and serves as a New Family Mentor, a Class Agent for the outreach campaign, and on the annual Gala Committee.
She is mom of two, a ceramic artist in her free time and is known professionally as an award winning creative director, graphic designer and stylist. After receiving a BFA from Ohio Wesleyan University, she moved to NYC and started a long career in the magazine publishing industry, working for Hearst, Condé Nast, American Express and The New York Times. Owning her own business now allows her the freedom to live on the Cape while maintaining a variety of clients globally.
