Hugel Terracing report and pictures

Creating a Hugel Terrace Workshop a huge success

With Special Thanks to an Amazing Pair of Stewards of our Lands and Waters.

Peter Jensen and Lynn Van Norman, live high up on the western edge of Pilgrim Lake, our largest freshwater pond. There, on a very historical piece of property, they live as truly dedicated stewards of the land and the water upon which it rests.

OPC is very grateful to them for donating their time and talents on a cold and windy Earth Day, 2023. With friendliness, warmth and humor Peter and Lynn welcomed the participants who registered with OPC to enjoy their science-based, interactive workshop focusing on the creation and effectiveness of a terraced hillside garden to control and redirect excessive road water runoff.  Over the length of the two hour course, the group learned many of the aspects of this special form of gardening, pitching in quite frequently with Peter to do some of the heavy lifting and terrace construction. Enjoy the pictures below. Peter is a Regenerative Agroecologist. He and Lynn own and operate Terra Firma Permagardens from their home in Orleans. He can be reached by email TerraFirma.Jensen@gmail.com
